Service Description

This tour is perfect for Los Angeles visitors and longtime residents. Anchored by two architectural masterpieces, the Griffith Observatory and the Hollyhock House, this 2hr walking tour is perfect for fans of architecture, history, or urban exploration. No visit to Los Angeles is complete without a trip to the Griffith Observatory. An LA icon, the Griffith Observatory is an art deco triumph that can be seen from across the city. Famous movies like Terminator and La La Land have filmed on the grounds of the Griffith Observatory, and Adele once performed on the lawn. The tour begins at the courtyard of the Griffith Observatory for a deep dive into the architecture and California's contributions to the space race! Before long, you'll be heading downhill and into Griffith Park. Who was Griffith J. Griffith and why were his first and last name the same? Take the tour to find out! Using a secret entrance, the tour continues into the residential part of Los Feliz. For the next 30 minutes, its a whirlwind of world class architects and their works. Homes by Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, Paul Revere Williams, and more fill the hills of this historic neighborhood. The famous Ennis House by Frank Lloyd Wright is in this section of the walk. Eventually, you'll make it to the bottom of the hills and find yourself on Vermont. Vermont is one of the busy commercial streets in Los Feliz. There are many little tidbits of history here, if you know where to look. If you're interested in early Disney Studios history, this tour will show you where it all began for the creator of Mickey Mouse! As you pass the cool coffee shops, restaurants, and historic theatres of the neighborhood, you'll learn more about the fascinating history of the area. Finally, the tour will arrive at the Hollyhock House. The Hollyhock House by Frank Lloyd Wright is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important architectural landmarks in the world. Considered a masterclass by the most influential American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, the Hollyhock House has inspired generations of architects and designers. This is a must see for anyone that loves architecture. ***This tour does not begin where it ends! There is the Metro Dash Shuttle that picks up every 10-15 minutes, right by the Hollyhock House/Barnsdall Park. That can take you back to the Griffith Observatory. Please feel free to ask your guide for help!***
